About the community
Westman Rocks is about creativity, community and bringing brightness to another person’s day.
When you find an art rock
Photograph your discovery and share it here, then choose whether to keep the rock or hide it again :) You are not required to replace a found art rock with a different one.
When placing or hiding art rocks
- Write “Westman Rocks” on the reverse. If room remains, also add “post picture to Facebook” and “keep or rehide”.
- Use public locations, never private property.
- Do not take flowers or foliage, fungi, or unpainted rocks from Provincial or National Parks or from railway beds.
- Avoid grass where lawnmowers or weed whackers could strike the rocks.
- Attach nothing to a rock—such as googly eyes, paper or pompoms—because it can become lost, create litter and cause problems for wildlife.
You may share clues about where you placed or hid your art rocks, but doing so is optional.
Note: there is no assurance that your rocks will be found or posted on the page, so please do not make that the main focus. Have fun and enjoy brightening somebody’s day :)

Frequently asked questions
What paint can be used?
Members have used acrylic craft paint, paint pens and nail polish.
What works best as a sealant?
Any all-purpose outdoor sealer, including Rustoleum or Varathane, works well. Spray products are quick and easy to apply.
Where can rocks for painting be found?
Garden centres, Michaels, Dollarama, Walmart, beaches, gravel pits… Remember not to collect rocks from provincial or national parks, railway beds, private property or businesses.
Can I receive more clues about a hiding place?
The number of clues is entirely up to the person who hid the rock. For most participants, the pleasure comes from leaving a little beauty where an unsuspecting person will happen upon it.
