About the community
This family activity is about painting and hiding rocks. Share photographs both of the rocks you create and of those you find, and let’s get hiding.
Creators should upload images of painted rocks and say where they will be hidden. Hunters should photograph their finds and tell us whether they are keeping them or where they will hide them. Hunters are asked to think of others: never take every rock from one area; leave some behind.
Contact an administrator with questions or concerns and we will help. The group is fun for every age, and we want it to remain so. Thank you for your support, and happy hunting.
What you need to know
The group's aim is to give joy to everyone who finds a painted rock.
- Ideally, move a found rock to another location. Choose somewhere safe to reach, never grass where a mower might strike it, and never private property.
- We encourage—but do not require—you to post a find. Artists appreciate seeing that their rocks were discovered and the smiles they caused.
- It can be difficult to part with a rock, and that is all right. Keep three and hide the remainder.
Painting rocks to hide
- Find rocks, but do not remove landscaping stones from a business or private property.
- Paint them. Add “Parsons Rock hide and seek” and the Facebook logo somewhere so finders can locate the page. Every rock must be family-friendly because families participate together and everyone should be able to join without encountering questionable material. Many painters use acrylic paint; Sharpies or paint pens are good for writing, and Mod Podge, spray sealant or another sealer helps the work survive the weather.
- Hide the rocks. Suitable places include city parks, walking trails and areas outside shops or other buildings.
The group is very active. If you do not want constant alerts for every new post, consider changing your notification settings.
Do not publish complaints that rocks have not been posted. Such discussions rapidly become uncontrolled and negative, and negative comments will be removed. If a painted rock has not appeared here, trust that somebody has enjoyed it or is enjoying it; many people do not post, including because they do not use Facebook.
Do not respond negatively to a photograph or comment you dislike. Every negative or vulgar comment will be deleted, and members may also be removed. Our purpose is to share joy, not create negativity.
