About the community
Welcome to Painted Rocks Calgary. We build community by painting rocks: a wonderful opportunity to create with children, friends and family while getting outdoors. Add colourful pictures and a message, then hide your rock for somebody else. A rock you find may be kept or hidden again.
Want to paint a rock?
- Choose clean, dry and unpolished rocks.
- Acrylic paints and permanent markers work best.
- Respect the environment. Always seal painted rocks, and prevent them from becoming litter by avoiding glued-on items such as sequins, stickers, feathers and yarn.
- On the back, add “Painted Rocks Calgary” and the [f] Facebook symbol, then seal it. This tells the finder what to do and where to locate us. You may instead print a paper label reading: “You Found Me! Keep Me or Re Hide Me. Join our Facebook Group: Painted Rocks Calgary”.

Want to hide a rock?
Hide it wherever you wish, then post a picture giving the general area or park name. Before going out, read the comments for updates so you do not search for a rock that has already been found and moved.
Found a rock?
We love photographs of discovered creations and watching them spread joy as they move between parks. Post a picture saying where you found it, then choose one of these options:
- Hide it again in the same place or elsewhere. Tell us that it was found, and once hidden, post its new location on this page.
- Keep it, and comment on the original hiding post that the rock is no longer there.
Tell your friends and share this group with anyone who may want to join.
