About the community
This group is a place to report, with a photograph, wandering rocks found in Haarlemmermeer, Heemstede or Haarlem.
If you have discovered a beautifully painted rock, you now have a small work of art made with care. Post a message on this site with a photograph of the rock and state where you found it, including the street and town. This allows its creator to see that the rock has been found. You can then choose whether to keep it or leave it somewhere else for another person to discover.
Enthusiastic about this rockin' idea? Join in:
- Find a few nice, unpainted rocks.
- Paint them with acrylic paint, waterproof marker or a combination of the two.
- On the back, add the Facebook logo and the words KEI TOF Haarlemmermeer/Heemstede/Haarlem, optionally followed by your postcode.
- Finish the rock with varnish, clear spray lacquer, hairspray or clear nail polish.
- Hide it somewhere in Haarlemmermeer, Heemstede or Haarlem: not too well, but somewhere reasonably visible.
- Wait for the finder to post a photograph in this group.
You can of course find rocks in nature, but you can also buy them, for example at Gamma or Praxis, as mosaic-tile sheets at a DIY store, or at Splitkorrel in Lisse, where you can choose each rock yourself.
Paint — preferably acrylic — is available from places including Action and craft shops. Acrylic markers are very convenient; those sold by Action are suitable for beginners. Craft shops also sell other, often more expensive, versions such as Posca. AliExpress and Amazon are options too.
Waterproof markers in black, red or blue also work well, especially on a beautiful white rock or on a base coat such as Action's white Gesso primer. Remember to varnish the rock afterwards.
Action sells both gloss and matte varnish; either will work. Hairspray, clear spray lacquer and nail polish also work well. Let your creativity run free!
