About the community
A warm welcome to Happy Stones OV (Overijssel) and the surrounding area.
Happy Stones has spread to the Netherlands from Germany, where it is enormously popular. There is now also a group for IJsselland/Overijssel and Gelderland.
You are now part of this region, where you can make stones yourself and leave them somewhere, and let people know that you found a beautiful stone!
But what exactly are Happy Stones, and what is the purpose of this group?
You use a stone that you found on holiday or along the rivers, saw and took from the beach, or bought from a garden centre, and paint it yourself.
In this way, you turn an ordinary stone into a Happy Stone for others: a genuine work of art that can make someone happy.
Place your Happy Stone somewhere you think it will be found and can bring someone joy.
Whoever finds the stone may keep it or leave it again in another place after some time. So simply keeping it is allowed too!
What can you paint on the stone?
In principle, anything you want, as long as it is neat, decent and not offensive. Consider dot painting, a smile, words, flowers or animals; you name it, nothing is too unusual!
If you leave your stones on behalf of this group, put the Facebook logo and Happy Stones OV on the back. You can add a message or postcode. Then varnish the stone and make sure someone who finds it can show it.
The albums tell you which supplies you need. Work with water-based acrylic paint and do not glue plastic googly eyes or rhinestones to the stones, for example. Consider nature: such parts can come loose and end up there. We must take good care of nature.
Where can you leave the stones?
Choose only places where leaving stones creates no danger. Avoid dangerous junctions, roundabouts, busy roads and so on. Remember that children may react very impulsively as soon as they see something: they then stop paying attention and have no awareness of danger! You may leave stones in places such as a park or museum, along walking or cycling routes, in the forest or on the beach; choose for yourself. They can also be placed by someone’s door, shed or garden if you have a special message for that person and would like to cheer them up.
Have fun making the Happy Stones. We would love to see your photo of the artwork on Facebook. Happy faces photographed with the artwork they found: that is the best thing about Happy Stones.
