About the community
“Happy Stones” are painted stones intended to bring joy to those who discover them. People of all ages can participate by making, hiding or finding them.
Stones are placed in clear view, for example on a bench, tree stump or small fence, or beside a walking path. The group asks members to identify the sender as “FB Happy Stones Hoogezand/Sappemeer en Kropswolde”.
Finders are encouraged to post a message in the group, preferably with a photo and the location of the find, to give the maker news of the stone. They may keep it or continue its journey by leaving it in another suitable place. The group aims to bring happiness to as many people as possible.
The group's tips:
- Its guidance recommends water-based paint, such as acrylic paint, and varnish for outdoor protection, and mentions hairspray or nail polish as alternatives. Glued additions and text are also allowed.
- The sender named above should always be included.
- Members are encouraged to spread the word to increase participation and enjoyment.
- Beginners are welcome; stones do not need to be works of art.
- A piece of napkin applied with collage glue is another suggested technique.
The group encourages creativity and enjoyment.
