Halifax Rocks is about enjoying a little outdoor fun through creating, exploring, and sharing.

WHEN YOU FIND A ROCK
Take a photograph or selfie and share it here. You may keep the rock or hide it again, and you are not required to replace your find with another rock.

WHEN PLACING OR HIDING ROCKS

• Use public locations only. Do not place them on private property — including retail and commercial premises — or in cemeteries.
• Avoid grass, where lawnmowers or weed whackers might strike them.
• Write on the back, “Post Pic/Selfie to Halifax Rocks Facebook Group, keep or re-hide,” or as much of that message as space permits.
• Do not add rocks to or remove them from Municipal, Provincial, or National Parks/Beaches, or railroad beds. See https://novascotia.ca/sns/paal/dnr/paal061.asp.
• Attach nothing such as paper, pompoms, or googly eyes. Detached items can become litter or create problems for wildlife.
• You may post clues about where you left or hid rocks, but doing so is optional.

NOTE: There is no assurance that somebody will find your rocks and post them to the Halifax Rocks page, so do not concentrate too heavily on that aspect. Some finds are never reported; some appear months later; others are repeatedly found and hidden.

NO PROMOTION OR SPAM
Spam, self-promotion, and unrelated links are forbidden. We will remove or block comments that intensify or encourage negativity, or advocate conduct contrary to these guidelines. Repeated incidents may cause members to be blocked.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Which paints can I use?
Members have used acrylic craft paint, paint pens, and nail polish.

What sealant works best?
Any general-purpose outdoor sealant works well, including Rustoleum, Varathane, and Modge Podge. Sprays are especially quick and simple.

Where can I get rocks to paint?
Try garden centres, Michaels, Dollarama, Walmart, or landscaping companies. Remember: never take rocks from national or provincial parks, railroad beds, businesses, or private property. See https://novascotia.ca/sns/paal/dnr/paal061.asp.

May I ask for more hiding clues?
The number of clues is entirely the hider’s decision. For most participants, the pleasure lies in leaving a piece of beauty where an unsuspecting person will happen upon it.
