About the community
We welcome everyone who has just arrived!
Here is how the group works: decorate a stone however you like, write something on the back such as “Upload a photo to Facebook Baena-Roc, then keep or hide”, leave it somewhere and bring joy to the person who discovers it.
We recommend smooth stones measuring at least 4 cm. You can paint them with acrylics and then write on them with dark permanent markers. Once dry, a coat of clear varnish will make them virtually indestructible. Acrylic paint markers usually give the best result, especially if you are just starting and want to avoid frustration, as beginning with brushes is more difficult. However, there is no need to make things complicated: imaginatively use whatever you already have—nail polish, markers...—everything is welcome. Remember to add “Upload a photo to the Facebook group ‘Baena-Roc’, keep it or hide it again”, or a similar phrase, to the back.
You do not need artistic talent, although our members include artists young and old who put a great deal of effort into their work; some of the stones you find will amaze you. You can also create series on any theme you can imagine: superheroes, artists, animals, plants...
Once they are ready, hide them wherever you like. We recommend public, open and safe spaces where children and adults can look for them, such as squares, parks and avenues. We especially like busy parks because they help attract more rock painters.
Before hiding your collection, post a photo here and a clue about the chosen location—park, neighbourhood, promenade...—to encourage lots of people to search for it. Sometimes a photograph of the stone in front of the area where you hid it is enough. Return often to see posts from people who find stones and discover where they end up; you may be surprised.
Painting and hiding rocks is free, and the page does not allow them to be openly traded. If you are very skilled and find many, all we ask is that you also help us have fun by contributing stones that you have painted and hidden yourself.
We are friendly people who want to have fun with friends or family. Any unpleasant, promotional or off-topic message will simply be deleted.
Thank you to all Baena’s rock painters: you make the city prettier, more enjoyable and more liveable.
